In this virtual COP, People for Peat will present the findings of the current peatland landscape in Myanmar. The findings are collated from desk review and online meetings/interviews with peatland stakeholders in the country. In addition, all participants will discuss several important issues regarding peatlands, especially related to peatland management in Myanmar. The participants will also discuss required policies to support the sustainability of peatlands and about activities that are important to be carried out in an effort to support sustainable peatland management. The Conference of Parties (COP) will be conducted through the virtual meeting (Zoom app) with resource persons from Myanmar.

The objectives of the virtual COP are as follows:

  1. To do stocktaking on Myanmar’s baseline of peatland policies & regulations, management and existing research in Myanmar
  2. To identify the existing research gaps on peatland topics in Myanmar and the specific topics of research required to support sustainable peatland management in Myanmar
  3. To influence, streamline, and empower non-state actors to support sustainable peatland management in Myanmar.
