Awareness & Advocacy
The ASEAN Peat Ranger consists of selected champions in local communities/villages of eight ASEAN Member States (AMS). The selected champions will be provided with knowledge on peatland management which will then be transferred to other villagers through village meetings/events organized by training participants. The establishment of Peat Ranger aims to increase awareness and a better understanding of communities on sustainable peatland management.
The training focuses on three topics: Peat Fire Prevention, Peat Water Management, and Livelihood on Peatlands. Besides, we will also deliver additional topic that suits the local condition. Upon completion of their training, the rangers will be deployed to local communities to perform and scale up the capacity building at the grassroots level. Rangers will continuously obtain access to all activities within the SUPA project (publications, events, experts, and convenings) to assist them in spreading knowledge in their communities. The capacity building at the grassroots level is expected to encourage more new champions in local communities with an improved understanding of peat and best practices of peatland management.
The venue for peat ranger training in Malaysia will be at Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia, and it will be conducted on 28-29 June 2022. Seven peat rangers/participants will be attending the training, four rangers come from Ayer Hitam (Johor) and the other three rangers are selected from Kuala Langat, Pahang.
