The Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary (PWKS) in Koh Kong, Cambodia is one of the largest undisturbed mangrove forests in Southeast Asia. With a total area of 23,750 hectares, it removes some 62,000 metric tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere every year. It is also home to rare mangrove peatlands!
As the peatlands were only discovered in 2014, research is still in its infancy, but the local government, NGOs, and community members are already enthusiastically absorbing all the information they can about this carbon sequestration powerhouse.
