Local communities are at the forefront of peatland restoration and conservation, which is crucial for the landscape. The project established Peat Ranger Program in eight ASEAN countries (including Indonesia) to assist community-based key initiatives especially related to peatland management and protection with a direct impact to reduce fire and haze.

The ASEAN Peat Ranger consists of selected champions in local communities/villages. Peat Ranger Training in  Vietnam was conducted on 12-13 May 2022 at Hall of Tan Thanh-Thanh Hoa telecommunications center, Tan Thanh town, Tan Thanh district, Long An Province. The six selected champions from the province attended the training, and were provided with knowledge on sustainable peatland management. They will then be transferred to other villagers through village meetings/events to spread the knowledge.
